Effect of Climate Change on Staple Food Production: Empirical Evidence from a Structural Ricardian Analysis

چکیده

The structural Ricardian model has been used to examine the links between climate variables and staple food production in literature. However, empirical extensions considering cluster-correlated effects of change have limited. This study aims bridge this knowledge gap by extending accommodate for spatial clustering while examining their on production. Based nationally representative farm household data Taiwan, present investigates effect conditions both crop choice subsequent three most important foods. results suggest that seasonal temperature/precipitation variations are major determinants after controlling households’ socio-economic characteristics. impacts found be location-dependent, which also vary significantly across commodities. Climate impact assessment under four Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) scenarios indicates detrimental rice during 2021–2100. Under RCP6.0, adverse will reach high approximately $2900 last two decades century. There is a gradual increase terms size negative vegetable RCP2.6 RCP4.5. RCP6.0 RCP8.5, switch signs entire time span. fruits different from other simulated that, except positive around $210–$320 2021–2040; then $640–$870 before end

Climate change effects on economic growth: mixed empirical evidence

West Africa is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. This paper analyzed the impacts of climate change on economic growth in Anglophone West Africa with similar background, during the periods 1969-2016. Five growth model equations have been developed to incorporate climate change variables into the model. Panel data estimations such as the fixed effect model, random effect model and Haus...

CLIMATE CHANGE AND FOOD PRODUCTION by Tim Curtin (Australia) CLIMATE CHANGE AND FOOD PRODUCTION

The availability of atmospheric carbon dioxide is the sine qua non for all plant growth and thence for all marine and terrestrial life forms. The purpose of this paper is to show that proposed reductions in anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) to below the level of observed annual incremental biospheric absorption of those emissions would reduce the growth of the basic feedstock of a...

Effect of Climate Change on Maize (Zea mays) Production and Food Security in Swaziland

Climate variability has been and continues to be, the principal source of fluctuations in global food production in countries of the developing world and is of serious concern in the Kingdom of Swaziland. The mean annual rainfall is considerably low in most parts of the country and temporal variability is quite high. In some places, as much as 60% of the annual total rainfall is recorded in jus...
